Bypass ANY Firewall/Hide Traffic – SSH (Part 1 of 2)
In this tutorial I show how to bypass ANY firewall restriction (Blocked ports, websites, etc…) as well as encrypt all network activity by creating an SSH Tunnel. By doing this you can create a secure tunnel to your home system (SSH Server) and access the internet from the remote location as though you’re using your home internet.
Commands Used:
- cd C:\Program Files\OpenSSH\etc
(Changes to the specified directory)
- mkgroup -l (GREATER THAN SYMBOL) ..\etc\group
(Creates a group file with the Windows account type information in your C:\Program Files\OpenSSH\etc directory)
- mkpasswd -l (GREATER THAN SYMBOL) ..\etc\passwd
(Creates a passwd file with the Windows user-profile information in your C:\Program Files\OpenSSH\etc directory)
- net start opensshd
(Starts the OpenSSHD Service)
- ipconfig /all
(Displays IP Configuration information needed to setup an internal static IP Address)
- putty -D 8080 -P 443 -ssh [EXTERNAL IP ADDRESS]
(Command used in Batch File to launch the SSH Session to your SSH Server)

Does it just say Error 5 or is there surrounding text? Could you provide some additional details like OS, Install Directory, CYGWIN version and install directory for it?

I’ve tried reinstalling etc ‘run as administrator but, to no avail. It keeps giving me error 5 when I type ‘net start opensshd’ Would you be able to shed some light on the situation. I’ve followed your instructions to the letter and nope still gives me ’system error 5 has occurred’

Hello Davroju, sorry for the delay. I haven’t had time to respond for the past couple days.
Ensure you’re not on a restrict account on your computer, verify that you have write / modify permissions on the OpenSSH directory along with child directories, check that the file edited is not Read-Only, and make sure the OpenSSH service is not currently running.

hi, mushroom…im tryin to get this runnin on my system, i originally want to use it to unblock/bypass the ports for ventrilo as my uni network has blocked ventrilo ports….but the weird bit is, i cnt save the notepad++…so at 5:25 where you go into the openSSH etc folder and edit the ports with notepad++…i did that but the system wont let em save…it keeps saying save failed/access denied…so im stuck…pls help..:D

I would assume the tunnel should work between two different platforms. I don’t use a Mac (For obvious reasons) but from a quick search I found two possible work-arounds:
1 – Do a search for JellyfiSSH. It’s a Mac OS compatible SSH Client.
2 – Use the integrated SSH function within the Mac. Launch the Terminal and type ssh [address] -l [login name]
I’ve never dealt with Sonicwall so I am not to sure to be honest..

Help ok me and my friends at school today got ourselves admin accounts on the macs we have so i can now use the terminal is the commands the same as putty or are they different and can ssh tunneling work with two different OSes I running windows 7(Fuck yea) and Mac OSX 10.something at school(Which is a piece of shit) By the way were using sonicwall at school to block sites do you know any other hacks around sonicwall.
